The Brief & Philosophy
This project involved the revitalization of a 53-year-old structure, transforming it into a healthy, highly functional home-office. Embracing the philosophy that "less is always more," our investigative approach prioritized essential needs over superfluous wants. Through minimal structural intervention and meticulous attention to detail, we crafted a space that is both optimal and deeply experiential.
Spatial Flow & Dynamics
The two levels are designed around clear circulation and seamless transitions. A welcoming entry at the ground level flows effortlessly from the living room and reading corner into the pantry and backyard. Flexible wooden-finish sliding partitions, featuring a custom tree-motif cutout, adapt the space to maintain varying degrees of privacy. The staircase is thoughtfully designed to integrate with an informal lounge seat. Storage is optimized through animated, dual-purpose elements, including a vertical shelving unit with a built-in pull-out trolley.
On the first floor the central passage is enlivened by a functional railing that doubles as art shelving. The extreme ends of this floor are dedicated to individual office spaces for the clients, balancing productivity with rejuvenation.
Materiality & Light
The subtle, sublime material palette bridges the corporate and the domestic, beautifully complementing both existing and new furniture. In the backyard, an earthy palette of mosaic tiles, bamboo, and walnut granite defines the hangout zone. Here, we addressed the site challenges like maximizing natural light for the pantry, safeguarding against falling coconuts, and creating a transition from covered to open space. A rhythmic bamboo screen provides privacy while casting animated patterns of natural light into the lounge.
This home-office adjusts to the rhythms of work and life, proving that thoughtful architectural intervention can breathe new life into legacy structures. A workspace that encourages productivity and positivity is essential.
